Our Spring season is over and so is Anime Expo: time to vote on shows and use them to build our Summer schedule. Because we lost a weekend to Anime Expo, we'll only have 11 weeks of showings (in addition to whatever samplers and features we can squeeze in this weekend).
Events this week:
Attendance:
Notes: We started with voting. That left us with some pretty clear contenders, a push to see the Tanya the Evil movie+OVA (easier to fit into week 0), and a couple shows with significant "?" votes. So we re-sampled episode 1 of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, then went on to Kill Blue episode 1 (for Steve) and 2 (for Brian and David). That seemed enough to get everyone on board.
After that we re-sampled Journal with Witch, watching episode 2 - it was the only other show on the border with a "?" vote that could influence whether it ended up in or out. Then we had a short intermission and watched the Tanya the Evil OVA "Operation Desert Pasta" as well as the 2019 Tanya the Evil movie.
Attendance:
Notes: We started off discussing the schedule, then eventually moved on to samplers (listed above).
Our Spring planning looked a bit like this:
We built our Summer schedule last week. The features we vote in will probably have to wait until week 0 of Fall unless we blow through a lot of samplers, but doing that freed up enough time for us to watch all of Daemons of the Shadow Realm on Fridays, and both seasons of Dorohedoro on Saturdays. It also gave us enough time to start 2/3 of our Witch shows from episode 1 for those who weren't around when we sampled Release that Witch and Witch Hat Atelier, or just want to refresh their memories of 1st episodes sampled around 3 months ago.
Events this week:
Attendance:
Notes: Kaiju Girl Caramelise was fun, and the gyaru/paleontologist mother character was a good addition. Apparently she's played by Mitsuishi Kotono (Usagi from Sailor Moon, Misato from Evangelion, Mink from Dragon Half).
Attendance:
Notes: We started off rewatching episode 2 of Kill Blue because we had watched it on Friday of week 0 and Guy hadn't seen it. However, everyone had seen Witch Hat Atelier episode 1, so we were able to start with episode 2 there and keep from messing up our overall episode counts for Saturdays this season.
Restarting Dorohedoro from the beginning of season 1 was a good idea - only David recalled it well (because he'd rewatched season 1 just a couple weeks prior).
The samplers both came across well enough, though Iron Wok Jan seemed to generate more excitement than Frontier Lord.
Sentai is running sales through what appears to be all of July; we're currently well into week 3. Not that Sentai sales are particularly newsworthy, but it's interesting that during the Crunchyroll Store's more-or-less going out of business sale they're trying to sell the Sentai product they have in stock at MSRP instead of at discounters around 60-80%.
Speaking of Crunchyroll: I posted an image in the club Discord earlier this week showing a screenshot from ANN: the story on top about how Crunchyroll was delisting titles like Blood Blockade Battlefront, Black Lagoon, and Barakamon (to hit just the "B"s), with the story immediately underneath about how OceanVeil was adding shows like Love Hina, Yuru Yuri, Nyarko-san, and HaNa YaMaTa. I thought having the contrast highlighted by juxtaposition was interesting, at least.

Notes: There were some delays tonight because the Discord install on Alan's streaming account had been corrupted, and after reinstall there was confusion about which of multiple accounts should be used to set up streaming.
